"The Pipe Major" is a Scottish pipe march in 4/4 time and A Major. The parts are played AABB.
It was composed by Scots fiddler-composer J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927).
The Traditional Tune Archive states that it was composed in honor of Donald Macpherson, but Donald
Macpherson was born only 5 years before J. Scott Skinner's death. A more likely cadidiate is
John MacDonald (born 1865) who was pipe major of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.
It was printed in Skinner's Harp and Claymore (1904).
