"The Pipe Major" is a Scottish pipe march in 4/4 time and A Major. The parts are played AABB.<br> It was composed by Scots fiddler-composer J. Scott Skinner (1843-1927).<br> The Traditional Tune Archive states that it was composed in honor of Donald Macpherson, but Donald<br> Macpherson was born only 5 years before J. Scott Skinner's death. A more likely cadidiate is<br> John MacDonald (born 1865) who was pipe major of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.<br> It was printed in Skinner's Harp and Claymore (1904).<br>
